Reading Section of the PTE: Multiple choice, choose single answer  

Multiple choice questions are always fun to answer. The right answer is always in the list of options. It is your job to find it. Much like a detective, you must use clues in the question and scan the PTE Academic passage, to match the clues to the right suspect. Check the box beside the right answer after thoroughly analyzing all the answers in the list. Use these tips below to arrive at the right answer:

Identify key words in the question:

Recognizing keywords will make your search for the answer relatively easy. However, a misunderstood prompt can leave you searching for gold in a coal mine. Read the prompt carefully, and do not hesitate to re-read it as many times as required. Once you have understood the prompt, you can stay laser focused on the information required from the PTE Academic India passage.

E.g. The primary cause for malaria is ……………………..

In the above question ‘primary, cause, malaria’ are the clues/keywords.

Eliminate wrong answers to arrive at the right one:

Look at the list of answers before you read the PTE Academic passage. Some answers will seem ridiculous. These can be eliminated instantly. As you read the passage, pay attention to sections that carry relevant information, apropos the left over options in the response list. If you are still unable to solve the question, short list the options and pick the one that seems most appropriate.

Do not overanalyze:

In depth scrutiny of a PTE passage will often raise more questions than answers. Let your speed through the passage canter at some knots above cursory and a couple of knots below scrutiny.
