Speaking Section of the PTE: Answer Short Question

In this section of the test, your knowledge of the English language will be assessed. Every test of English assesses a student’s grasp on the language through different techniques. Apropos the PTE Academic exam, this section will do the needful. The following suggestions should not be ignored:

Do not hesitate: The PTE test takers’ software prompts the machine to shut off the microphone after 3 seconds of silence. Your answer is hence considered ‘Completed’. You will be left with no option, but to click ‘Next’ and refocus your attention on the next item. Therefore, it is important to concentrate when the question is being asked. During this time, you can wrestle with the many answers flooding your mind, and pick out the most suitable response. Once the microphone is open do not waste time. Answer the PTE Academic India question as succinctly as possible and move on.

Do not give long-winded answers: Remember the one mark questions in exam papers, which you were required to answer during your formative years in school? This section of your PTE is no different! The machine is looking for a particular word and not a prolonged answer. E.g.

Q. What is a young cat called?

A. ‘Kitten’ or ‘A young cat is called a kitten’

Both answers will be awarded the same points under this PTE section. So, you see, the length of your answer is not the factor being assessed. In fact, the instructions for this section reads “You will hear a question. Please give a simple and short answer. Often just one or few words is enough”.

If you have a strong English vocabulary, you will not face any difficulty in this section. Listening, thinking and communication are made easy by the presence of a machine instead of a personal examiner. The PTE Academic is the easiest PTE test of English in the department.
