Documents You Must Have When Applying for an Australian Student Visa

After finding an answer for ‘why study in Australia’, the next thing that comes to the mind is the Australia student visa (subclass 500).

Let us find out some information on Australian student visa!

All international students are bound to apply for the same visa, which you must apply online. Before applying for it, you will need to have a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) confirming you have been allowed to join a program registered under the CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions of Courses). The COE is often in the form of an online code that you will require entering into the appropriate section in the visa application.

You can change the course or study program afterwards to study in Australia at the same or the higher study level. However, you will need to apply for a new visa if you are changing the program to a lower level on the AQF (Australian Qualification Framework) or a non-AQF level course.

Once your online visa application is completed, you will need to produce proof of the following as per the Australia student visa requirements:

Financial Requirements: Proof of sufficient funds to cover living expenses, tuition fees and travel costs. The amount you will need to prove you have for living is set at AUD20,290. In case you have dependents, you are subjected to provide evidence of being able to afford living costs for them, including school fees. Alternatively, you can show a proof that your parents or spouse are willing to support you and they make at least AUD60,000 a year.

English Language Requirement: If you don’t belong to an English-speaking nation, you will need to show that you can understand English to the required level. The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) website lists eligible tests, with possibilities being TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Advanced English, and Pearson Test of English Academic. The score you need depends more on whether you are starting a full degree, joining a foundation course, or enrolling in a preliminary ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students).

Health Requirements: You may be called for a medical check-up to show you are in good health. You must meet a physician who is approved by the Australian immigration department.

Character Requirements: The student visa stipulates you must be of good character to study in Australia. These requirements may include a criminal record check, to ensure that you do not have any substantial criminal record. You may also be asked to have a penal clearance certificate or police statement, and complete a Character Statutory Declaration Form.

These are the requirements that one must fulfil to get an Australian student visa. For more, you can speak with an AECC Global education consultant.
